Fresh doubts over the real cause of Nigerian singer Mohbad‘s death have prompted Lagos State Police to assure that they may exhume his body for an autopsy.
Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin stated this possibility during an Instagram Live discussion with radio presenter Daddy Freeze this week.
Hundeyin acknowledged ongoing speculation and concerns following rapper Mohbad’s sudden passing last Sunday. To help determine conclusively what led to the controversial artist’s demise, Hundeyin said police are willing to take the serious step of exhuming his remains.
“If need be, we will exhume the body for an autopsy,” the police PRO confirmed. He emphasized that uncovering the facts is paramount.
However, Hundeyin noted that exhuming a burial remains a last resort. Police will first thoroughly evaluate existing evidence and accounts from witnesses and Mohbad’s associates.
The news comes on the heels of allegations of possible foul play or unnatural causes in Mohbad’s death. But Hundeyin reiterated that no evidence yet substantiates such claims.
Nonetheless, the willingness to exhume the body demonstrates Lagos Police’s commitment to fully investigating the rising afropop star’s tragic end. The postmortem autopsy could help provide Mohbad’s grieving fans and loved ones the answers and closure they seek.
For now, the circumstances around Mohbad’s passing remain unclear. But authorities are seemingly exploring all options to determine the truth
